In tribute to Harry we have re-named the 20Ten race the Harry Gamble-Thompson 20Ten to be held on Sunday 8th March 2020.
It is the race that we organise closest to Harry's beloved marathon distance, and will also be close to the anniversary of his passing.
For the last couple of years the 20Ten has been held on the same day as Thirsk 10, however this will not be the case for next year, as Thirsk has a provisional licence for 15th March 2020,
In an effort to maximise the number of New Marske Harriers being able to commit and take part in this tribute the entries have opened now before being advertised outside the club.
Remember this a 20 mile race with a 10 mile option - only one entry, you can decide during the race if you only want to do 10.
Entry is available now via the link below. If you are not able to run the 20 or 10 mile distances - you can still be part of the event by making yourself available as a marshal.

Sadly I have to inform you that Harry Gamble-Thompson, one of New Marske Harriers’ longest serving members died last night. He was 87.
Harry joined the club not long after it was formed. As a runner he set and still holds many club records for all distances from 5k to Marathon. At the 1982 London Marathon (whilst a member of Middlesbrough & Cleveland) he ran a time of 2:32:10 which still ranks him 10th All Time British Vet 50. He probably ran faster than that as there was no chip timing in those days!
During his 60’s he was often ranked in the top 3 in the country at the marathon.
During his 10 years as chairman, he was instrumental in helping the club raise £50,000 of the £150,000 match funding that secured the National Lottery funding for the track at Laurence Jackson School which is a legacy that benefits our current junior members.
It was due to the inspiration of Harry that I started running and his encouragement that I joined the club. He would also provide help and advice to runners of all abilities.
Until quite recently he still helped Yvonne opening up, making the tea and washing at the church hall on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
He will be missed by everyone that knew him.
