New Marske Harriers were again amongst the medals with three golds in the hurdles events. Amy Carter was competing in the under 17 girl’s hurdles and won the gold in a time of 9.40 seconds ahead of Hartlepool athlete Emma Scarborough (Gateshead) in 9.59 seconds. Carter then returned to place a creditable 4th in the 60 metre flat in a personal best of 8.31 seconds. Elecia Smith took the clubs second gold of the day in the under 15 girl’s hurdles in 9.97 seconds with Jordan Trower taking bronze in 10.26 seconds. In the under 15 boys hurdles race Matthew Brining added to Saturday’s pole vault gold winning here in 11.59 seconds from silver medallist and club mate Matthew Walker in 11.90 seconds. The final medal of the day came from Libby Currie who ran well to take the silver medal in the under 13 girl’s 60 metres in 8.82 seconds.

Matthew Brining (New Marske Harriers) won the gold medal in the under 15 boy’s pole vault with a clearance at 2.50m, he also added a silver in the triple jump with 9.59 metres. In the under 15 girls competition Catherine Burns (Middlesbrough AC) was desperately unlucky to miss out on the gold medal in the shot putt throwing 8.95 metres for the silver medal just 1 centimetre behind the winner. Elecia Smith (New Marske Harriers) won the Silver medal in the high jump clearing 1.45m. In the under 13 age group New Marske Harriers were in great form on the first day of the championships. Sophie Brining was a double medallist with silver in the long jump (3.39m) and bronze in the high jump 1.05m). Matthew Walker completed the sea-siders first day haul with silver in the long jump (4.24m).

North East Pentathlon Championships 19th September 2015

Report by Charles Burke

Eleven club members and their parents (not mine !!), enjoyed the glorious sunshine while competing in the annual outdoor pentathlon event at Jarrow on Saturday 19th September, a date which has been fixed in the training groups calendar for what seems like months. The group have trained 3 or 4 times a week trying to master the highly technical disciplines involved in the pentathlon - hurdles, long jump, high jump, shot putt and 800m.

An excellent turnout from the club at what is a physically and mentally draining challenge. Everyone ended up with at least one pb (I have checked Power of 10, and apologies if I have made any mistakes).

U13 boys - Lucas Pentland 1pb in the shot putt, and niftily dodged a fellow competitor who fell in       the hurdles. Points 775 7th out of 9.

U13 girls- Charlotte Bennett 2 pbs in the shot putt and the 800m in 2-31 which gives her the U13      girls club record which she has been chasing all year, brilliant Charlotte. Total points                              1791 12th out of 29.

Ruby Whitney 4 pbs !!! long jump, high jump (winner of the smiliest high jumper), shot                   and 800m. Points 1635 15th.

                 Libby Currie 3 pbs !!! and 1 equalled hurdles, =long jump, high jump, 800m. Points                        1318  21st.

Lucy Nicklin 3 pbs !!! high jump, shot and 800m. Points 1175 23rd.

Millie Pentland 2 pbs!!! hurdles and long jump (an upsetting KJT hiccup in the high jump                 due to over zealous officiating !!) 747 points 28th.

Libby, Lucy and Millie are still in the U13 group next year, well done girls.

U15 boys- Matthew Brining 4 pbs !! hurdles (an event he was dreading), long jump, shot putt and                   800m. Points 1063 6th.

U15 girls- Elicia Smith 3 pbs, high jump, shot, 800m. Points 2382 (a club record by nearly                             1000 points) 5th out of 21 and first season in the U15 group. An excellent performance.

Jordan Thrower 4 pbs !!! hurdles, high jump, shot, 800m. 1776 points (also bettering the                club record) 18th. (first season)

Casey Thwaites 5 pbs !!! well done Casey. hurdles, long jump, high jump, shot, 800m.      1375 points. 20th. (first season)

Vet men 65 Charlie Burke 1pb ?? 800m. 1578 points 6th out of 11, 1st V65 men.

A brilliant day you multi-eventers, and now for very well deserved break from intense training. Thanks for the support of mums and dads. Division 3E Match 2 – Middlesbrough - 06/06/15

After coming 2nd in the first match of the season New Marske were out to claim top position in the 2nd event held at the new Middlesbrough Sports Village.  Competing against Durham City, South Shields/Birtley, Wallsend/Blyth, Houghton and Middlesbrough & Cleveland, New Marske fielded a strong team.  With excellent performances throughout the event programme in both track and field it was great to see juniors, seniors and veterans all participating and with an excellent team spirit.    Whilst the wind hampered some of the events, there were still PB’s including 12.1 seconds for Amy Readman in the 100m and Kath Aspin with 11:20.5 in the 3000m. There may be more once they can be seen on Power of ten!

Overall New Marske claimed a super victory with a clear lead over South Shields/Birtley who were 2nd.
