I received the sad news today (14th Feb) that Tom Farrell, one the club’s founder members, died peacefully this morning, following a long illness.
Tom was not a stranger to health issues, but right to the end he confronted these issues philosophically.
My earliest memory of Tom, before the club was formed, was seeing him walking his racing greyhounds.
When the club was formed, he became involved as a coach – I recall seeing him with a group of juniors on New Marske Sports Club field coaching javelin (years before the track at Guisborough).
When he stepped back from day to day involvement with the club, he remained in contact, attending presentation evenings, and he continued to help many members with sports massage (skills honed on greyhounds) – I personally never needed his help in this way, but my wife did and she says that his hands reached places so deep that didn’t seem possible without breaking the skin!
Our condolences to his wife Sue and the rest of his family
