Match Abandoned!

The final senior league match had to be abandoned when a torrential rain and hail storm flooded the track. Minutes after this photo was taken the long jump pit completely disappeared under water.

At the time the match was abandoned New Marske were lying 2nd, but it is believed that the match score will be declared void as only 15 events had been completed. The performances of those events can be seen below:

Senior League Whitley Bay

New Marske team just pipped in close finish!

A depleted women's team in a closely contested match prevented New Marske from picking up maximum points in the 2nd Div 4E fixture. The host team, Heaton and Tynebridge had just about every event covered A & B (as was our men's team) but only prevailed by 372 to 362. However the result was still good enough for New Marske to head the league table going into the next fixture at Hexham on 30 June. The Heaton/Tynebridge combo was made up of mainly members of the new Tynbridge club - many of the athletes were trying track & field for the first time - and by sheer weight of numbers accumalated enough points to secure their win. It would be nice if some our female members could show the same Dunkirk spirit as the Tynebridge members.

Highlight of the performances from New Marske was a club record equalling High Jump of 1.80m by Dougie Elias - Jess Rogers (hammer) and Amie Bloomfield (Long Jump & Triple Jump) picked uo maximum points.
